Mohawk Tower is a 24-story, 421-bed high-rise residence hall on the University at Albany’s Uptown Campus. It was originally delivered by DASNY in 1968 and after nearly 50 years of continuous service, it was in need of updating. This ambitious project involved a complete interior renovation including the creation of a new entry lobby, insulation of exterior walls to improve thermal performance, reorganization of interior space, and replacement of all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and telecommunications systems.
For the student dwelling units, a new schematic layout was devised that provides a variety of living conditions and complies with ADA requirements. Floor levels three through 21 contain suites of four, five, six, or seven beds in a variety of configurations, with accessible units provided as four-bed suites. Each suite has a private bathroom, and some floors include a small shared study space. Additionally, two residence hall staff apartments were provided on floor two. DASNY promotes and supports sustainable design approaches and construction practices on all of our projects. Our Green Construction Policy dictates that all projects that are new construction, addition, or significant renovation shall include a goal of LEED Silver and shall be fully submitted to the US Green Building Council (USGBC) for a rating review. Mohawk Tower uses materials that are highly durable and sustainable, with contemporary, natural finishes that both modernize and “green” the building’s interior spaces. The building is currently in the process of achieving its LEED rating from USGBC.More Information
