Liberty Terrace Residence Hall

Liberty Terrace lobby kitchen Game Room Fitness Center

Liberty Terrace is a 500-bed residence hall, newly constructed of pre-cast concrete. Notable sustainability features include green roof areas and the use of geothermal energy conservation strategies. The university uses the sustainability features as educational opportunities for the students who occupy the building. Interpretive signage is provided on pathways along wetlands reconstructed as part of the project. A large wall-mounted flat screen in the main lobby displays the building’s energy use and water consumption to its residents. At the residence hall’s recycling areas, rain gardens collect and treat the runoff from the roofs of the recycling structures, reducing the amount of storm water to be treated by the facility’s storm water detention system and the community’s storm sewer system. The project was completed in August 2012.
