DASNY Completes Approximately $52.3 Million in Facility Renovations Across the State
Summer Construction Projects Completed at SUNY College at Brockport and SUNY Geneseo
Investment Complements "Finger Lakes Forward" - The Region's Comprehensive Strategy to Revitalize Communities and Strengthen the Economy
Albany, NY – Gerrard P. Bushell, Ph.D., President & CEO of the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY), announced today approximately $8.9 million in upgrades have been completed at SUNY College at Brockport and SUNY Geneseo this summer. The work is part of approximately $52.3 million in upgrades, some of which are being completed over multiple phases, to State University of New York (SUNY) campuses throughout New York State completed by DASNY during the summer months – ready in time for students to begin the fall semester.
The projects were financed through DASNY’s SUNY Dormitory Facilities Program, which issues low-cost, tax-exempt bonds supported by student residence hall fees.
“High quality work in an expedited timeframe is a hallmark of how DASNY does business,” said Dr. Bushell. “These improvements, done expertly and efficiently during the summer months across SUNY’s campuses are providing new and returning students with more attractive living and learning facilities and making their college experience one they will never forget.”
“Through our partnership with DASNY, our students are able to benefit from enhancements and updates that generate better living spaces and more efficient study environments,” said SUNY Chancellor Kristina M. Johnson. “The work completed this summer also supports SUNY’s energy efficiency and sustainability goals, and ultimately, is driven by the desire to support the health and wellness for all who reside on a SUNY campus.”
This summer at The College at Brockport, $3.4 million was used to complete renovation projects including exterior masonry work at Briggs Hall to make the building water-tight and ensure its longevity. At Bramley Hall, additional safety measures were implemented, including new residence halls doors that require an identification card with built-in security codes to access the building. Additionally, Bramley Hall received structural repairs that will improve the longevity of the residence hall.
At SUNY Geneseo, $5.5 million went to several projects in Nassau, Suffolk, and Wayne Halls. The residences received new flooring in the hallways and bedrooms, and the walls received a fresh coat of paint. In addition, Suffolk Hall’s roof was replaced with a new, insulated roofing system, greatly improving the building’s energy efficiency. In addition, the elevators in Alleghany and Steuben Halls, which were more than 50 years old, were replaced. And in Saratoga Hall, 43 townhouse apartments received upgraded and highly durable luxury vinyl tile (LVT) flooring. Dehumidifiers were also installed throughout the residence hall to improve air and moisture quality.

The energy-efficient roof on Suffolk Hall will help boost our sustainability efforts, and the new elevators, flooring, and other enhancements are welcomed improvements," said SUNY Geneseo President Denise A. Accelerating Finger Lakes Forward
Today's announcement complements "Finger Lakes Forward," the region's comprehensive blueprint to generate robust economic growth and community development. The State has already invested more than $6.1 billion in the region since 2012 to lay the groundwork for the plan -- investing in key industries including photonics, agriculture and food production, and advanced manufacturing. Today, unemployment is down to the lowest levels since before the Great Recession; personal and corporate income taxes are down; and businesses are choosing places like Rochester, Batavia, and Canandaigua as a destination to grow and invest in.
Now, the region is accelerating Finger Lakes Forward with a $500 million State investment through the Upstate Revitalization Initiative, announced by Governor Cuomo in December 2015. The State's $500 million investment will incentivize private business to invest well over $2.5 billion - and the region's plan, as submitted, projects up to 8,200 new jobs.
