DASNY and SUNY team up for more than $10 million in upgrades
ALBANY, N.Y. (September 12, 2017) -- Gerrard P. Bushell, President and CEO of DASNY, announced today more than $10 million in upgrades have been completed at SUNY Buffalo State College, Alfred State College, and the University at Buffalo. The work is part of approximately $30 million in upgrades to SUNY campuses throughout New York State completed by DASNY over the course of 90 days – ready in time for students to begin the fall semester.
At Buffalo State, $4.9 million in upgrades included the replacement of student bedroom and suite lounge windows in the 10-story Tower 3 that were installed in 1968. Floor and ceiling materials containing asbestos in Tower 2 were removed and replaced, preparing for a full building renovation scheduled to start in 2019. Twenty-two bathrooms also received new showers, sinks, and toilets in the Moore Complex Apartments, and masonry wall work was done at Towers 2, 3, and 4.
At the University at Buffalo, $2.9 million in improvements included the renovations of 22 bathrooms, and the renovation of the Red Jacket dining hall exterior staircase with new risers, railings and lighting fixtures.
At Alfred State College, $2.7 million in projects included the continuation of the phased-in project to install new boilers and a new generator at MacKenzie Hall. New pavement, sidewalks and landscaping were also installed.
The projects were financed through DASNY's SUNY Dormitory Facilities Program, which issues low-cost, tax-exempt bonds supported by student residence hall fees.
“DASNY is proud to deliver these upgrades to Buffalo State, the University at Buffalo and Alfred State with our hallmark speed and efficiency before students returned this fall,” said DASNY President & CEO Gerrard P. Bushell. “Improving and maintaining student living environments helps our SUNY campus partners compete for top talent and strengthens New York’s economy while supporting the next generation of leaders.
Alfred State College Executive Vice President Valerie Nixon said, “Our students are returning to a campus with needed improvements completed over the summer. Not all of the work is visible, but the DASNY bonding program made it possible for us to invest in boiler systems to improve campus energy efficiency, and the MacKenzie residence hall, currently being rebuilt from the ground up, is now outfitted with a new generator.”
Buffalo State College President Katherine Conway-Turner said, “Upgrading our residence halls is an important part of providing our students with the outstanding college experience they expect from SUNY and Buffalo State. DASNY is critical to providing the latest amenities to our campus.”
