BROOKLYN — DASNY President and CEO Robert J. Rodriguez today joined Medgar Evers College President Dr. Patricia Ramsey to tour the College campus, including numerous construction and improvements managed by DASNY that helped enhance students’ experience.
Some of the highlights of the tour included:
- The Bedford Building, which recently underwent a $14 million overhaul, with the lobby being newly completed. The renovation included the reconstruction of the East and West lobbies, featuring a new glazed aluminum curtain wall, architectural cast-in-place concrete vestibules, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing upgrades, building management system enhancements, and structural steel modifications, including the installation of new pile caps for additional reinforcement.
- The Academic Building 1, where DASNY managed the design and construction of this new building and purchased equipment. This five-story structure is home to the School of Science and Allied Health, and features high-tech classrooms, seminar rooms, computer labs, instructional labs as well as 36 research and instrument modules for the physical and biological sciences, biology, nursing, and mathematics.
President Rodriguez said, “DASNY is proud to have partnered with CUNY for nearly 60 years on projects that enhance the educational opportunities for students from all backgrounds.
Medgar Evers College is a critically important institution for Brooklyn and New York City, and DASNY is honored to support its mission and its role as an anchor institution for New York City.”
“I am pleased that President Rodriguez, fairly early in his role as President and CEO of DASNY, took a personal interest in seeing the DASNY projects at Medgar Evers College and to get a better understanding of the College’s current and future needs,” said Dr. Ramsey.

The Bedford Building (1650 Bedford Avenue) is a three-story structure built in 1988 that houses the School of Liberal Arts, School of Business, School of Education, Differently-Abled Services, the Founders Auditorium, the Presidential Conference Center, lecture hall, labs and the administrative offices of the President and Provost. In addition, this facility provides classrooms, computer labs, teaching labs and counseling.
The School of Science and Applied Health is housed in a $247 million-dollar, five-story, 195,000 gross square foot brick structure called Academic Building 1. It was designed by renowned architect Todd Schliemann of Ennead Architects, L.L.P., (formerly Polshek Partnership). It features 87 faculty and administrative offices for all science departments, information technology services, buildings and grounds and Public Safety; numerous student study areas; a faculty dining room; a glass pavilion, a 264-seat dining hall; and a multi-purpose room to be used for
lectures, concerts, and social functions. The award-winning building has 11 high-tech class rooms; 6 seminar rooms, 14 instructional labs as well as 36 research and instrument modules for the physical and biological sciences; a 50-seat lecture hall with distance learning capabilities; a 100-seat lecture hall; and 6 computer labs.
