The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) today announced the start of construction of a floodwall system to protect the Ontario Main Wastewater Pumping Station (WWPS) from flooding, the first of two Resiliency and Economic Development Initiative (REDI) projects awarded to the town of Ontario.

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the start of construction of a $1.5 million project awarded to the Town of Sterling, Cayuga County, through the Resiliency and Economic Development Initiative. The existing double culvert carrying McIntyre Road over Sterling Valley Creek is the only access route for local residences and agricultural properties north of Sterling Creek. Flooding events of 2019 caused inundation of the culvert and erosion of the roadway embankment at both the inlet and the outlet of the culvert. To keep this vital roadway open, emergency repairs had to be undertaken. Improvements included in this project will ensure uninterrupted residential and emergency vehicle passage.

During flood events, stormwater ponds on the roadway and floods basements. The $2 million REDI grant-funded Lakeshore Drive project will replace and improve the existing stormwater conveyance infrastructure and help to mitigate the effects of stormwater intrusion.

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced more than $455 million in energy efficiency upgrades across the City University of New York system. The energy-saving measures developed by the New York Power Authority and the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and operating costs while advancing the goals of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, the most aggressive climate change law in the nation, through the increased use of energy efficiency to annually reduce electricity demand by three percent — equivalent to 1.8 million New York households — by 2025.
